What is Hacking ?

Hacking is an attempt to break through a computer system or a private network in order to gain control over it. In other words, hacking is referred to as finding weaknesses ,bugs ,backdoor or vulnerability in a computer system to obtain unauthorised access in it.

Who is a hacker ?

A hacker is a person who tries to hack a computer system using his computer knowledge.
Hacking

A hacker has complete knowledge of computers which includes it's hardware, software ,etc. He also knows all the basic computer programming languages totally or basically, like Python, Java script, HTML, PHP, Ruby etc. For a hacker it is necessary to have all these information in order to overcome all the obstacles that arise while hacking. Also, a hacker needs to write a script or he needs to create a program of hacking all by himself. For this he needs to have programming knowledge which includes some of the above mentioned computer languages.



Is Hacking Illegal❌?

There is a very wrong misconception about hacking and hackers. Many believe that hacking is an illegal practice, which is not true. Not all types of hacking are illegal. Whether some kind of hacking is illegal or not; it is determined by the type of hacker and the hacker's intention of hacking .

Hackers are classified as Ethical and Unethical  

  • ETHICAL HACKER :- The Hacker who use there computer knowledge and hacking knowledge to find the vulnerability in the system or a software to fix and make the system more strong is the ethical one.

    An Ethical Hacker always hacks into the system with the permission of the system's owner.There are many unethical hackers who can hack a system without the knowledge of the owner which results in loss of sensitive data, financial loss, etc.Therefore the owner needs to hire an Ethical hacker who finds the weakness of the system, reports it to the owner and then fix it preventing other illegal hackers from hacking it. Ethical hacker also help the security agency to identify the unethical hackers and to stop them from making an attempt to break into the system. Today Ethical Hackers are very crucial as computers are used everywhere. Ethical hacker can be find in a private or government company or departments to protect the company sensitive data , In Intelligent Agency to maintain the cyber security and to locate the unethical hacker , In Military to get the every single information of  the enemy and to keep eye on the opponent . In simple words ethical hacker is a good hacker who always think about our privacy and security. His work is always legal.
  • UNETHICAL HACKER OR BLACK HAT HACKER :- This type of Hacker also finds vulnerability in the system and bypasses it's security but without the permission of the system's owner. These are the unethical hackers. They hack any software, network, etc. for their personal and selfish gain. They may steal a company's data or may breach into the security system illegally and start molding or playing with it. Then they would ask for ransom if the company wants them to stop. They find the vulnerabilities of the system but never report it to the owner. They are dangerous as they can cause financial loss, loss of sensitive data, identity, etc. Sometimes Black Hat Hacker hack into various systems just for fun or to enjoy their hacking skills. There are many incidents where black hat hackers bypasses various security systems and  they leak it on the internet for free.
  • GREY HAT HACKER :-  These are neither white hat nor black hat. These hackers perform hacking for their own benefit but they don't have any wrong intentions. A grey hat hacker also find vulnerabilities in a computer system and bypasses it's security but without the permission of the owner. Still they never cause any harm to others. Unlike black hat hackers, as soon as grey hat hackers find any weak points in a system, they prepare a full report of it and ask for a small fee to the owner in exchange of the report. So basically they might hack into a system illegally but they don't cause any harm to it. But there can be cases where a grey hat hacker can turn into a black hat hacker.
  • SCRIPT KIDDIES :- These are unskilled and inexperienced hackers who knows very about hacking. They have very poor programming skills. As we saw previously, a hacker writes a script or creates a program of hacking all by himself. But, in case of Script Kiddies, as they lack these essentials skills they are unable to write their own program. Therefore they use scripts which are written by other skilled hackers. These scripts are easily available on internet. Script Kiddies lack the knowledge about how the script works. They use it without knowing how it works. Script Kiddies can be beginners in hacking or they may be teenagers which perform hacking just to impress their friends.
